In 2022, we met with the Bearded Vulture Conservation Foundation (Fundación para la Conservación del Quebrantahuesos - FCQ) to find a permanent solution to prevent bird collisions and reached a groundbreaking global conservation agreement.

The FCQ provided Red Eléctrica with the locations of 66 bearded vultures that had been tagged since 2022, and we committed to studying all line segments and implementing a marking plan, both in Special Protection Areas (SPAs) for Birdlife and other areas.

This commitment benefits not only the majestic bearded vulture, but also many other scavenger birds like vultures and large eagles, which share flight paths.

Thanks to this pioneering agreement, 446 kilometres of risk for the bearded vulture were identified. In 2022, we marked 82 kilometres of power lines, followed by an additional 160 kilometres in 2023. The remaining sections are scheduled to be marked by 2025.

Our support for the species will go one step beyond in 2024 with the launch of a permanent scientific station to analyse the impact of climate change on mountain habitats. We are deploying the "Comprehensive Conservation Area for the Bearded Vulture" in the Sierra del Cuera (Asturias).
