The purpose of the European landscape section is to compare the peninsula’s electricity system with the average for Europe, considering all the countries in the European Union except for Malta.

The data published have been taken from the public information available on the Transparency Platform of ENTSO-E, the European association for cooperation between the different European electricity TSOs (https://www.entsoe.eu/). This information is protected under Regulation (EU) No. 543/2013, which establishes common and homogeneous criteria that must be used by all member countries. This is the reason why there may be discrepancies for some data with the other information sections.

  • Solar: Includes solar photovoltaic and solar thermal.
  • Other renewables: Includes biogas, biomass, marine hydro, and geothermal.
  • Gas: Includes combined cycle and cogeneration.
  • Waste: Includes renewable and non-renewable waste.
  • Pumped storage: Includes pure pumped storage.
