From our control centres, we guarantee the correct operation of the Spanish electricity system.

The Electricity Control Centre (Cecoel), located in Madrid, is the hub from which electricity is managed in real-time: it is responsible for the coordinated operation and supervision of the Spanish electrical system's generation and transmission facilities around the clock, to maintain the constant balance between energy production and demand. To achieve this, it receives, analyses, and processes around 240,000 data points every moment.

Additionally, we have control centres in the Balearic and Canary Islands, from which we operate the electricity and ensure the proper functioning of the electrical system in these territories.

How Does Cecoel Operate?

It receives real-time information about facilities not owned by Red Eléctrica from control centres designated for the transmission of real-time telemetry.

It continuously monitors the state of the grid and its components, as well as their electrical parameters. It does so through a telecommunications network that acts on control variables to maintain supply security and quality.

It processes the information received from production plants and grid facilities so operators can analyse it and take actions to ensure system safety.

In order to control and manage variations in demand and possible unavailability of the generating equipment, it issues the operating instructions necessary for the correct programming of electrical production and international exchanges.
