Historia de Red Eléctrica

Red Eléctrica's History

In 1985, we emerged as the world's first TSO, the first company dedicated exclusively to operating the electricity system and transmitting electrical power. Since then, many other countries have followed our lead in the electricity sector, and today this model is the most widespread in Europe.

We began our operations with a team of 90 employees and a 10,500 km grid. Since then, we have grown in our orientation to service and pioneering spirit, evolving alongside the country in its modernisation.

Our mission has always been guaranteeing a secure and high-quality electricity supply and developing a reliable electricity transmission grid to provide an essential service for homes, businesses, and public services. We have been –and will remain– at Spain's service, now also serving as a fundamental pillar in its ecological transition.

Red Eléctrica was the seed of its current parent company, Redeia, a global operator of essential electricity and telecommunications infrastructures. Our parent company was created in 2008 to strengthen the separation of its regulated activities from the rest of its business.
