During the excavation work at the Magaña sub-station (Soria), which began in 2017 and continues today, our archaeologists have discovered several prehistoric animal tracks.

Some of these ichnites have been attributed to different groups of dinosaurs.

  • The elongated three-toed footprints, sometimes with preserved plantar pads and claw marks, belong to theropod dinosaurs.
  • The tridactyl ichnites with a sub-rounded shape and short toes are attributed to the ornithopod group, which were herbivorous dinosaurs of varying sizes.
  • Another type of ichnite found at the site belongs to the sauropod group, which have two types of footprints that differentiate the hands from the feet.
  • In addition, an accumulation produced by a mixture of wave marks and a possible four-toed ichnite attributable to another group of Mesozoic vertebrates that coexisted with the dinosaurs were discovered.
  • Other remains of various invertebrates such as worms, crustaceans, and molluscs have also been found at Valtajeros.

The most notable finds have been sent to the Provincial Museum of Soria for exhibition and care.
