Demand for electrical energy increased 2% in December

The demand for electrical energy on the Spanish peninsula in the month of December is estimated at 20,711 GWh, a value 2% up on that registered in the same month last year. After factoring in the seasonal and working patterns, electrical energy demand on the peninsula decreased 2% compared to December 2016.

In 2016, demand for electrical energy on the Spanish peninsula is estimated at 249,499 GWh, up 0.7% on the same period in 2015. After having factored in the seasonal and working patterns, demand for electrical energy has not varied with regard to that registered last year.

Generation coming from wind power reached 2,658 GWh in December, a value 22.2% lower than the same period last year, and this represented 13.3% of total production.

In the month of December, using provisional data available at 30 November, generation coming from renewable energy represented 26.3% of total production.

47.1% of electricity generation during the month was obtained using technologies which produce zero CO2 emissions.
