Red Eléctrica de España has completed the process for assigning the interruptibility service through competitive bidding auctions with the allocation of a total of 10 blocks of 90 megawatts (MW) and 415 blocks of 5 MW, which translates into an interruptible power for 2017 of 2,975 MW. There were 138 consumers involved in this auction.

The auctions, which took place in Madrid from 14 to 17 November, were organised by Red Eléctrica as Auction Administrator, which today published the final results on the e-Sios website, already validated by the National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC).

On Wednesday, 16 November, once the initial 340 blocks of 5 MW had been auctioned without the budget allocated for the 2017 season being exhausted, Red Eléctrica, pursuant to that set out in the Resolution of the Secretary of State for Energy of 5 August, which approved the rules of the competitive procedure for the allocation of the interruptibility service, published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) of 12 August, 2016, called additional auctions that took place on Thursday the 17th and in which 75 new blocks of 5 MW were allocated.

The average allocation price was 289,125 euros/MW for products of 90 MW and 127,536 euros/MW for those of 5 MW. The weighted average allocation price was €176,420/MW.

The starting prices set by the Secretary of State for Energy in the Resolution of 7 October 2016, which approved the calendar and characteristics for the 2017 electricity auction, published in the BOE of 12 October 2016, were 310,000 euros/MW for products of 90 MW and 160,000 euros/MW for those of 5 MW.
