  • The substation, with a gas insulated configuration and located underground, ensures the coverage of the future electricity demand in the eastern part of Valencia
  • Red Eléctrica has invested 10.7 million euros in this substation

The Regional Minister for Sustainable Economy, Productive Sectors, Trade and Labour of the Government of Valencia, Rafael Climent, today visited the 220-kilovolt (kV) Aqua substation in Valencia. During his visit he was accompanied by the Manager of the Transmission Services Area of Red Eléctrica, Luis Velasco, and the Company’s Regional Delegate, Maite Vela.

The use of new generation gas insulated technology has made it possible for this substation to be located inside an underground building, under the roundabout at the intersection of Paseo de la Alameda and Calle Menorca.

The substation will make it possible to guarantee the coverage of the current and future electricity demand in the eastern part of the city of Valencia, which is expected to grow due to future urban and industrial developments, and at the same time, the facility helps improve the quality of the supply and the reliability of the electricity system as a whole in the city of Valencia.

The Aqua electricity substation is fed from the 220-kV underground line that connects the substations of Parque Central and Fuente de San Luis. This facility enables electricity from the 220 kV transmission grid, owned by Red Eléctrica de España, to be supplied to the 132 kV and 20 kV distribution networks of Iberdrola.

After a long and complex construction process, not without its difficulties and technical challenges, the new facilities were commissioned in December last year and represented a €10.7 million investment by Red Eléctrica de España.
