Red Eléctrica renews the Palmanova substation in Majorca
Red Eléctrica de España has recently completed the renovation works for the 66 kilovolt Palmanova substation in Calviá (Majorca). It is the first comprehensive renovation of an armoured substation in a building.
With an investment of 2 million euros, the renovation of the substation has been carried out as a solution to its obsolescence, thus improving the electricity supply guarantee and security in the urban areas of Son Caliu, Palmanova, Magaluf, Cala Vinyes , Sol de Mallorca, Portals Vells, Son Ferrer and El Toro, which have high electricity demand during the summer season.
The replacement of all the substation elements was carried out without disruption to service, isolating it from the entire transmission grid and installing two bypasses or provisional connections between the two lines that reach the substation from Calviá and Santa Ponsa, as well as two distribution transformers. Subsequently, the disassembly of the old installation and the assembly of the new one were carried out.
Red Eléctrica de España is committed to the improvement of the Balearic transmission grid ever since it began to operate the electricity system in the islands and acquired the electricity transmission assets with the aim of offering the highest quality standards in the electricity supply and contributing to an efficient and sustainable operation of the electricity system.
