The 'Red Eléctrica de España' competes in the 37th Copa del Rey Reggata in the ORC 2 class
- After seven editions participating in X-35 and one in Swan 42, the team makes its debut in the time-compensation competition
- The company sponsors the "Enlace" awards, which will be given to the winners of each class in the equator of the competition
Red Eléctrica de España presented today at the Real Club Naútico de Palma sailing club the boat and sailing team participating in the 37 Copa del Rey Sailing, held from 28 July to 4 August in the waters of the Palm bay. With this sponsorship, for the ninth consecutive year, the company keeps its support for this important sporting event and its social commitment with the Balearic Islands.
The Red Eléctrica de España boat will be skippered once again by Javier Sanz, president of the Real Club Naútico de Palma and the Organising Committee of the Copa del Rey Sailing, and debuts this year in the ORC 2 class, which is held time-compensation, so the team faces a new challenge on this occasion with the aim of expanding the excellent track record accumulated in this competition.
After seven editions participating in X-35 and one in Swan 42, both held in real time, the team was proclaimed the 2015 X-35 champion and absolute winner of this category in 2016, while it increased its record taking third place in the Swan class 42 in 2017.
This year, the 37 Copa del Rey Sailing has more than 150 ships from 29 nationalities, divided into 12 categories. Once again, in addition to the winners of each class, there will be two absolute winners, one in the real-time competition and one in the compensated-time.
“Enlace” Trophy
For the fifth consecutive edition Red Eléctrica sponsors the "Enlace" awards, already a tradition of the Copa del Rey. The awards, whose name refers to the submarine electrical interconnection projects that the company promotes in the Balearic Islands, are awarded to the winners of each category in the equator of the competition.
ORC 2 competition
The Red Eléctrica de España competes this year in the ORC 2 class, which is held in compensated- time. This modality applies a coefficient to adjust the real time obtained according to the features of each boat and to guarantee the maximum fairness among different boats.
It is a category with a high competitive level with 13 registered teams of eight nationalities for this edition: Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Dutch, Swiss, Italian Estonian and Turkish.
The boat and the crew
The Red Eléctrica de España is a cruising/ regatta sailboat, a Rodman 42, of 12.66 m. of length and 3.93 of beam, manufactured in the Spanish shipyards Grupo Rodman. The boat, which has previously competed in the Copa del Rey Sailing and has led the classification in ORC 2 on several occasions, and is one of the six Spanish boats registered this year in this category.
The crew of Red Eléctrica de España is a team characterised by the experience of all its members both in terms of sailing competition and the knowledge of the regatta field in the bay of Palma. In addition to Javier Sanz as shipowner, the following are part of the team: Javier Jáudenes (tactician), David Madrazo (helsman), Javier Sanz jr. (mainsail trimmer), Carlos Martínez (trimmer), Marcos Iglesias (trimmer), Eduardo Marín (pit), Rodrigo Sanz (bowman), Andrés Manresa (mastman) and Eduardo Valderas (navigator).
