Red Eléctrica, Redeia’s subsidiary responsible for the Spanish transmission and operation of the electricity system, signed a collaboration agreement on Friday with the City Council of La Palma del Condado. This agreement will lead to the construction of a cycle lane in the Huelva town, with the goals of facilitating sustainable mobility, contributing to the ecological transition, and promoting healthy lifestyles. This lane will link up the roundabout on calle Vega with the avenida Sundheim all the way to calle presidente Adolfo Suárez.

The initiative, with a total investment of 105,000 euros, is part of Redeia's Comprehensive Impact Strategy to positively impact the environment around its transmission grid facilities. The agreement was signed by the town’s mayoress, Rocío Moreno, and Redeia’s delegate in Andalusia, Jorge Jiménez.

For Jiménez, the signed agreement reflects the company’s commitment to sustainability, which aims 'to contribute added value to a territory where its facilities are located'. For her part, Mayoress Moreno celebrates the fact that the signed agreement 'represents a step forward in the City Council's plan to improve the municipality's streets and open up new, more sustainable mobility options. The upgrading of the road system will enable safer and more efficient traffic, which will benefit all residents. This collaboration with Red Eléctrica and its parent company, Redeia, addresses the current need in La Palma to improve its infrastructure and, consequently, the quality of life of its citizens'.

Projects in the territory

Red Eléctrica is building a 220 kV substation in the municipality of El Condado. It is an essential infrastructure for the province, as it will allow the electricity supply for the high-speed railway line connecting Seville and Huelva.

The project also encompasses a double-circuit line to connect the new installation to the grid via the Colón-Santiponce main line. Both infrastructures are expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Red Eléctrica will invest 6 million euros in these infrastructures. This investment will integrate the province into the high-speed railway map of the Iberian Peninsula and address a historical demand from all social and business agents in Huelva, positioning it as a key logistics hub between southern Spain, Portugal, and the rest of the peninsula.

These actions are part of the current electricity planning, approved by the Government and binding for Red Eléctrica. This plan allocates the largest investment in electricity infrastructure in the Iberian Peninsula to Andalusia.
