This Friday, the department of Natural Environment and Agriculture of the Regional Government of Biscay and Red Eléctrica signed a collaboration agreement to prevent forest fires near electrical facilities owned by the company in Biscay.

This partnership, which has been in place for over a decade, is now renewed for an additional four years to continue implementing the best prevention practices and minimise the risk of forest fires as much as possible.

Thus, both entities have renewed their commitment to creating development, innovation, awareness-raising, and outreach projects, initiatives, and campaigns focused on wildfire prevention and response until 2029. Among other actions, the agreement also includes training on fire prevention and extinguishing for Biscay firefighters, as well as preventive brush clearing.

For the Regional Government of Biscay, this collaboration represents a step forward in its strategy for forest fire prevention through Sustainable Forest Management, maintaining preventive infrastructures, and monitoring high-risk areas, in line with the current Forest Fire Prevention and Extinction Plan of the Historical Territory of Biscay (2021-2027 INFOBI) and the measures co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

This agreement is part of Red Eléctrica's commitment to sustainability by creating shared value for all stakeholders through responsible business practices, in line with its 2030 sustainability Commitment and the Corporate Social Responsibility Policy of its parent company, Redeia.

When it comes to wildfires, Red Eléctrica’s strategy is based on awareness, prevention, training, and collaboration with public authorities—not only to prevent fires from occurring but also to ensure we have the necessary knowledge to implement a rapid response if required.
