Red Eléctrica de España is going to analyse and review the document made public by the Local Council of La Línea regarding the construction of the electricity substation associated with the electricity interconnection of the Spanish mainland with the autonomous city of Ceuta. Said document will be jointly reviewed by the technical experts of both parties as part of the scheduled work plan currently underway with the goal of sorting out a solution that is agreeable to all.

These actions are part of the agreement reached a few weeks ago between the Mayor of La Línea, Juan Franco, and the Chairwoman of Red Eléctrica, Beatriz Corredor, and through which both entities agreed to start a dialogue process and undertake to jointly work to deep dive into the characteristics of the project in order to reach consensus on possible solutions for its construction.

In this regard, Red Eléctrica considers that the contributions made and included in this new document from the Local Council of La Línea should be analysed further, as they can enhance the studies carried out by the Company which, in this particular case, are set out in a document totalling 3,000 pages. Although this way of working and listening to the voice of stakeholders impacted in transmission projects is part of Red Eléctrica's standard procedures, special interest has been taken in this case due to the scope of the infrastructure.

It is worth noting that this substation is part of the electricity interconnection project between the Spanish mainland and the autonomous city of Ceuta, which in turn forms part of the current Electricity Transmission Grid Planning approved by the Council of Ministers and endorsed by the Government for the period 2015-2020. It is also encompassed within the new 2021-2026 Planning that the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has submitted for Public Information and Consultation. It is, therefore categorised as an infrastructure of general public interest, the construction of which falls under the responsibility of Red Eléctrica and which is clearly justified by the need to connect the electricity systems of the Spanish Peninsula and that of the autonomous city of Ceuta.
