Late in the morning, local time on the islands, about 50% of the electricity demand on the island of Tenerife had been restored after the power outage that hit the island at 9:43 a.m. Immediately after the ‘zero energy’ situation occurred, REE activated the power restoration protocol which is specifically foreseen for these situations and at 11:15 a.m. (local time on the islands), all the generating stations on the island had the necessary electricity supply to be able to produce electrical energy and by 12:00 midday the entire 66 kV transmission grid had been re-energised, awaiting only the connection of  additional generating stations that are necessary to restore 100% of the electricity supply.

At the time of the incident, no works or operations were being carried out on the transmission grid belonging to Red Eléctrica. The Company regrets any inconvenience that may have been caused by this situation. Initial investigations point to a generation failure as the cause of the incident.  We are continuing to work to achieve full restoration of the service in the shortest time possible.
