Today, the Irabia-Izaga and San Cernin schools from Pamplona and the El Cierzo Secondary School from Ribaforada won the regional final of the Entreredes Olympics, and will represent the Autonomous Community of Navarre in the national final, which will take place in the first half of June. Today's session, which was held online, marks the completion of an edition that saw the participation of 1,555 students from 6 schools in Navarre —a 27.4% increase compared to the 2022-2023 school year— from the towns of Pamplona, Tafalla, Carcastillo, and Ribaforada.
The students of San Cernin School were the winners in the 1st and 4th year of secondary education, while the winning team for the 2nd year came from El Cierzo Secondary School, and the team from Irabia-Izaga School emerged victorious for the 3rd year.
In the Entreredes Olympics, students play in teams using Entreredes, a video game created by Red Eléctrica, the company responsible for the transmission and operation of electricity systems in Spain. The aim of this game is to teach younger generations how the Spanish electricity system works in a fun and interactive way.
In order to progress and virtually travel across the country through different lines and substations of the electricity transmission grid, players must correctly answer questions about the course material they have covered throughout the year, with a particular focus on energy, the ecological transition, and the Spanish electricity system.
The 16 winning students will compete in the national final to demonstrate which group has better assimilated the knowledge they've gained about the electricity industry and their usual school subjects: Geography and History, Physics and Chemistry/Biology, Mathematics, Spanish Language and Literature, and Leisure and Culture.
The schools in the Autonomous Community of Navarre have been participating in the Entreredes Olympics since 2019, and their involvement has only grown since then. Across the country, nearly 54,000 secondary students from eleven autonomous communities and the autonomous city of Ceuta have used the game and participated in this edition.
