Red Eléctrica commissions the new 220 kV Buenos Aires sub-station in Santa Cruz de Tenerife
The new substation and associated lines required an investment of 25 million euros
This weekend, Red Eléctrica, Redeia’s subsidiary responsible for electricity transmission and the operation of the electrical system in Spain, starts works to commission the new 220/66 kV Buenos Aires sub-station in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This represents a new milestone in strengthening the power grid in the north of Tenerife and the metropolitan area of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, enhancing its security and energy transmission capacity.
The commissioning of the new Buenos Aires sub-station strengthens the transmission grid by upgrading the Candelaria-Buenos Aires 1 and 2 lines to 220 kV. Additionally, the 220 kV Porís-Granadilla lines will be modified, thus creating new circuits: 220 kV Buenos Aires-Caletillas, 220 kV Buenos Aires-Porís, and 220 kV Caletillas-Candelaria lines.
The new 220 kV Buenos Aires electrical sub-station and associated lines required an investment of 25 million euros. It is constructed with gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) technology inside a building, which occupies less space and provides greater reliability than a conventional sub-station with a breaker-and-a-half configuration. It consists of six new positions with two line inputs and two 220/66 kV transformer outputs.
The commissioning works for the Buenos Aires sub-station and associated lines will start tomorrow (Friday, 17 May) and will continue through the weekend, as well as on four days at the end of the month and the beginning of June: 30 and 31, May and 1 and 2, June. These works are scheduled on days of lower energy demand to avoid disrupting users.
The overall objective of these actions is to enhance the security of the electrical system, making their implementation crucial and valuable for the electrical system of Tenerife.
