The Red Eléctrica Group, through its subsidiary Red Eléctrica del Sur S.A., has been awarded the concession contract for the ‘Tintaya-Azángaro 220 kV Transmission Line’ project in Peru, through an international public tender conducted out by Peru’s state agency for the promotion of private investment (ProInversión).
Red Eléctrica will be responsible for the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of a 128-km line in the southern region of the country for a period of 30 years, in addition to the construction period.
With this infrastructure, Red Eléctrica establishes a connection between the projects of Transmisora Eléctrica del Sur and Transmisora Eléctrica del Sur 2, closing the ring between Tintaya and Azángaro. The investment planned by the Peruvian Government amounts to 55 million dollars (around 46 million euros), with a construction period of 40 months.
This award consolidates Red Eléctrica as one of the largest power transmission companies in Peru, and increases its presence in the country with a total of five concession contracts. It also represents a new breakthrough in Red Eléctrica's internationalisation strategy, which in 2017 has already been strengthened with the awarding of a new project to build 258 km of 220 kV lines in northern Chile.
With the addition of these assets to Red Eléctrica’s portfolio, it will soon manage 1,314 km of line in Peru and 1,464 km in Chile, favourably positioning the Company for the future interconnection between Chile and Peru.
The Red Eléctrica Group in Peru
The Red Eléctrica Group, through Red Eléctrica Internacional, has been present in Peru since 1999 and is the owner of 100% of the following companies: Red Eléctrica del Sur (REDESUR), a company responsible for managing the transmission of electricity in the geographical area of the south of this country (mainly the regions of Arequipa, Moquegua, Tacna and Puno); and Red Eléctrica Andina (REA), a company specialised in electrical maintenance in medium and high voltage, protection systems and telecommunications systems, as well as providing technical consulting for energy projects.
In turn, REDESUR owns Transmisora Eléctrica del Sur (220 kV Tintaya-Socabaya line and 138 kV Tintaya Nueva-Tintaya line and the associated substations), Transmisora Eléctrica del Sur 2 (220 kV Azángaro-Juliaca-Puno line) and Transmisora Eléctrica del Sur 3 (220 kV Montalvo-Los Héroes line). These last two infrastructures are currently under construction and are expected to be commissioned for commercial operation in 2018 and 2019, respectively, and represent a joint investment of about 100 million dollars (around 85 million euros).
